Abdominal Pain
Abdominal pain or discomfort, often known as abdominal cramps, is a frequent complaint with a variety of causes that vary by age and location in the abdomen or tummy/belly. They are usually minor and can be treated at home.
Menstrual cramps, viral infection, food poisoning resulting in enterocolitis, food allergies, or excessive gas are some of the most typical reasons. Home cures and pharmaceuticals can be used to treat such issues.
Abdominal pain can take the following forms:
- Generalized abdominal pain
- Adhesion colic, if the patient had previous surgery

- Enteritis
- Intestinal obstruction
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

- Gallstone disease
- Gastritis
- Gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD
- Hepatitis
- Pancreatitis
- Peptic ulcer – gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer
Diagnosis:
Investigations will be required to determine the cause, some of which may be an emergency requiring immediate surgery.
- Blood tests
- CT scan
- Endoscopy like Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy
- Stool tests
- Ultrasound scan
- Urine tests
- X-rays
Treatment:
Similarly, the patient’s care will be determined by the reason of the stomach pain. It could be anything from:
- Dietary modifications
- Lifestyle changes
- Medications
- Surgery, depending on the cause
